WhatsApp Message Yourself feature officially announced: What is it and how it works

Most productivity experts argue that taking notes and setting reminders can be one of the most effective ways to ensure you’re carrying out your tasks well in time. While there is a host of note-taking apps available on Android and iOS, WhatsApp has decided to capture a piece of the market by offering a brand-new feature that won’t require you to open a separate app. The Message Yourself feature will allow you to send yourself messages, and will appear in a chat thread that’s similar to any other chat with a different contact. This feature was initially a part of a beta trial. However, it will soon be available to all users.

What is WhatsApp’s Message Yourself feature?

WhatsApp’s new Message Yourself feature allows users to send and save messages regarding important reminders, links that need to be saved, tasks that are pending, and general ideas. You can even send a voice note to yourself if you don’t have the time to type reminders. This can work out to be a great solution for those with hectic schedules and a penchant for opening the chat app very often.

The chat thread that is created when using the Message Yourself feature is only visible to the creator. This means that other contacts will not be receiving these messages. Of course, people who wanted to use Whatsapp to store notes have created their own hack, so to speak. They simply create a group and delete other users from the same group. In effect, this creates a chat thread with only one person in it.

This feature is not entirely new. Telegram is known for offering this to help people take important notes ever since the app launched. Whatsapp has been testing this feature since October and will be offering it to people now.
