Android Auto features

Below are the new apps that Google announced for Android Auto and cars with Google built-in:

WebEx by Cisco and Zoom with audio-only capability

Video-conferencing platforms WebEx by Cisco and Zoom are both rolling out on Android Auto with audio-only capability. With these new apps, Google is making it easy and safe for drivers to quickly join scheduled meetings and conference calls from their car display, so they won’t have to go fumbling for their phone.

Amazon Prime Video

Google is expanding video applications in cars with Google built-in to keep drivers entertained while parked. Prime Video is now available on Google Play for select Renault, Polestar and Volvo Cars, with other brands to follow.

“Whether you’re waiting for school to let out or charging your vehicle, you can now catch up on your favorite content,” Google said.

It’s worth noting that video streaming is only available when the car is fully stationary.

Android Auto features Vivaldi (Chromium-based internet browser)

Already available in some cars as a standalone app, Vivaldi, a Chromium-based internet browser, is rolling out starting today on Google Play in the car. With Vivaldi’s functionality, drivers can browse the web safely while parked so they can make the most of their time.

Weather Channel app

In addition to being productive and entertained, Google is also investing in more ways to help drivers stay up to speed while on the open road. For example, if an unexpected rainstorm interrupts a driver’s trip, they will soon be able to download The Weather Channel app from Google Play on cars with Google built-in.

For those who are unaware, the Weather Channel allows users to always stay up-to-date on changing weather conditions with hourly forecasts, follow-me alerting and ‘Trip View’ radar, helping to keep them aware of the conditions ahead.
